Great photos of any kinds have two elements--Creating framing & lighting.
As a wedding photographer I challenge myself to take good shots under any conditions, even outside an ordinary garage. Wedding photography has a subtle linkage to street photography -- seeing the extraordinary out of regular settings. Later on I've applied the skills that I've learned in taking wedding pictures to street photography, and it was really fun.
It doesn't matter what type of photography interests you the most, I can reassure you that you will improve your skills drastically through STREET PHOTOGRAPHY. It is not about snapping random pictures on the street, but creating images that tell a story through better framing and lighting.
Street Photography also distracts one (at least momentarily) from work and problems as one learns to be patient and stay focused for capturing the "decisive moment". Every click comforts the soul. Yes, it's Zen.
