Preteen Summer Photography Camp in San Francisco
A super fun, in-person, half-day photography camp for kids
aged 10-14
Photosprouts is excited to partner with Catholic Boys School (CBS) in San Francisco to offer a 5-day summer photography camp for kids aged 10–14.
Campers will learn photography fundamentals such as camera basics, lighting, composition, and perspective while using Canon DSLR cameras and lenses provided by Photosprouts.
The program combines classroom learning with fun outdoor photo field trips to scenic San Francisco locations, including the Cable Car Museum, Ina Coolbrith Park, and the Ferry Building in Embarcadero. Led by experienced full-time photography instructors, this camp helps students grow their creativity, confidence, and artistic skills. At the end of the week, each camper will present their work in front of the class with the printed copies of their best photographs (and yes, parents are invited!).
This camp is designed for preteens of all genders and emphasizes composition and self-expression rather than the technical side of photography, which means there will be less focus on numbers and camera settings. Kids aged 13 or 14 are eligible for both this camp and the Full DayTeenager Summer Photography Camp (which has a much stronger focus on technical photography skills).
Please sign up through Catholic Boy School's Website.

The Work of Kids aged 10-14
5 Ways Photography Helps Kids Thrive
Photography is not just about taking pictures. For kids aged 10–14, it is a creative activity that can support confidence, focus, and personal growth in many meaningful ways.
1. It encourages creativity and self-expression
Photography gives kids a chance to see the world and express their feelings.
2. It helps kids focus
Social media and video games can shorten attention span, but photography teaches kids to slow down, observe carefully, and wait for the right moment which helps them become more patient and mindful.
3. It strengthens observation skills
Photography trains kids to notice light, color, shape, detail, and emotion which are essential for one to take better photos.
4. It builds confidence
Photography helps kids trust their ideas and feel confident in what they can create. Kids feel a real sense of accomplishment as they create the photos they are proud of.
5. It encourages independent thinking
Photography involves making choices, solving problems, and trying new ideas. This helps kids become more independent, thoughtful, and willing to learn through experience.
