Painted Ladies Creative Photography Workshop for Beginners

A Fun Outdoor Photo Exploration

Offered on the Labor Day Weekend Only

Pick up a camera and enjoy a relaxed photography experience at one of San Francisco’s most colorful landmarks-The Painted Ladies!

Through simple, guided activities, you’ll explore how intentional composition, foreground elements, visual balance, light, and timing can transform the same landmark into completely different photographs.

With only 5 attendees in each session, the instructor will review your images throughout the session with personalized guidance and help you make immediate improvements.

This fully outdoor session is designed especially for absolute beginners. There are no lectures on the technical stuff such as the exposure triangle, just focus on the creative side and develop your photographer's eyes through guidance on composition, lighting and camera angles.

Bring your own camera or use one of our modern mirrorless cameras during the session.

Come by yourself or bring a friend, and leave with new photographs, practical ideas, and greater confidence behind the camera.

Already attended our Beginners’ or Intermediate Photography Workshops?

Think of this outdoor adventure as a fun opportunity to strengthen your composition and put your existing skills into practice. Use the exposure triangle and camera controls you’ve learned to make creative decisions while photographing with your own camera or one of ours.

Looking for a deeper introduction to camera settings? If you would like to explore the Exposure Triangle such as the ISO, aperture (f-stops), shutter speed, and how they work together, please sign up for our regular Beginners’ Photography Class.

FAQ

  • Is this the same as the regular Beginners’ Photography Class?

No. This is a shorter, relaxed outdoor introduction focused on light, camera angles, and composition. Our regular Beginners’ Photography Class provides a more comprehensive, structured classroom session that builds the foundation in ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focusing, and essential camera controls.

  • How do I get my photos after the class?

We will provide a SD card reader that transfers the photos you took from the camera to your smartphone.

  • Is this suitable for someone who has never used a camera?

Absolutely! This outdoor photo adventure is designed for complete beginners. No photography knowledge or previous camera experience is required.

  • What will I learn?

Through simple, guided exercises, you’ll learn how to notice light, choose a stronger camera angle, improve your composition, and photograph the Painted Ladies more creatively.

  • Why is the Beginners’ Photography Workshop fully indoors while this class is outdoors?

The Beginners’ Photography Workshop provides an in-depth instruction on ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focusing, and technical camera controls. A focused classroom environment allows each concept to be explained clearly and practiced immediately without outdoor distractions.

This short outdoor workshop has a different approach: to let you experience the joy of capturing photos on a camera while exploring composition, light, and creative camera angles in a real-world setting.

  • Do I need to bring a camera?

This short session focuses on creating better photographs without an in-depth lesson on camera settings. If you would like to understand ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and how to control your camera manually, please sign up for our regular Beginners’ Photography Class.

  • Can I use my smartphone instead?

This experience is designed around learning with a digital camera and you can use a smartphone in addition to a camera (either with the one we provide, or yours).
