Cherry Blossoms Inspired Portrait

The 3 Lighting Scenarios

Spring is in full swing, are you amazed by the budding flowers everywhere?

I am!

Just found an area that has a ton of CHERRY BLOSSOMS, and I did a portrait photoshoot there. I would like to share the 3 lighting scenarios that I ran into in this portrait photoshoot.

Outline

1.

Intro (00:00)

-Beautiful Sienna

-How I found the cherry blossoms

-How we planned the photoshoot immediately

2.

Scenario 1: Open Shade with Backlighting (1:20)

-Usually the first thing that I do in a portrait session, I find an open shade. And within an open shade, I have different goals.

-Looking for backlighting is one of the goals.

-Use harsh sunlight as your backlighting/ hair light, rather than the main light.

-Use the open sky as your main light (open shade).

3.

Scenario 2: Overcast day (3:21)

-I change my strategy to shooting "light & airy" image on an open cast day.

-One of the criteria for capturing "light & airy" images is finding a light colored background (e.g the cherry blossoms)

4.

Scenario 3: The sun was setting down and I used a flash (5:15)

-The light intensity wasn't strong enough to light up the model as the sun was setting.

-I used a large softbox to diffuse the light.

-The flash can be used as the back light/ hair light

5.

Quiz (6:22)

-What is the main light?

-What is the back light?

-Imagine what the image will look like without a flash

6.

Answer (6:45)

7.

Learn the system that guides you to shoot in different light scenarios. (6:56)

8.

Funny thing that happened (7:40)

-I am also a kids & family photographer; running into me might be the best thing that happens to you that day :)

My equipment:

-Camera: Canon R5

-Lens: Canon EF 85mm F1.4 lens

-Video: Sony a7iii + 24-105mm Lens

-Gimbal: DJI RS 3 Mini
